Seven engraved marble soap bar on ceramic soap holders
Installation, 50 x 20 cm
The work consists of seven marble soap bars. Each is engraved, like a brand, with a word that refers to what we would like to wash our hands of, despite ourselves. Wash after wash, we are accustomed to seeing the writing that greets us fade away once we unwrap the soaps. Secretly, we wish this would also happen with the tragic, inexplicable, and cruel things happening around us.
The seven soap bars, one for each day of the week—almost as if to renew the daily ritual of a different forgetfulness—are made of precious marble in pastel colors but they carry significant weight and indelible writings.
We find, deliberately mixed and juxtaposed, allusions to personal and collective events. Among them, a black tablet peeks out, the only one without writing. A secret, a silence, the unspeakable.
